Letter from Pastor Jay

June 8, 2020

Dear Light of the Valley Family,

1- Our Strategic Planning Council met last week to seek the Lord’s direction as to when and how we should gather for public worship and larger fellowship activities. After considering government guidelines and how to safely include both young families and our more vulnerable members, we feel it is better at this time to wait until we can all come together in worship. Therefore, we will wait until later in July to reconsider our options. Until then, we will continue with online worship (Facebook live at 10:30am).

2- Though we will not be gathering for public worship, we are able to offer communion to our members! Starting June 14th , we will be making communion available at Light of the Valley on Sunday afternoons from 12:00-2:00pm two times a month: 6/14, 6/28, 7/12 and 7/26.

Our communion service will consist of music playing in the sanctuary as well as a scripture reading and prayer guide. Members will be ushered into the sanctuary and be given a communion service guide explaining the service. After spending some time reflecting on scripture and in prayer, you may come forward to receive communion and a blessing.

We encourage you to contact the church office (916-691-3568) and indicate a time slot (between 12:00-2:00pm) that you would like to attend.

3- The Lord continues to touch lives through His people at LoV! As of June 3rd, we have received $15,221 for COVID-19 relief. We have sent out $9,850 into our community (rent, utility bills, groceries, etc.). Thank you for “letting your light shine before (our community) that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

As always, if you have any questions or input, we’d love to hear from you. God bless and keep you in His good grace!

Letter from Pastor Jay dated May 28, 2020

Dear Light of the Valley Family,

(That’s kind of like “Captain’s Log, Stardate 3240”…)

These periodic updates are to answer the question, “What is the Lord up to with light of the Valley?” So a few quick notes to keep you in the know—

1- At the Voter’s Meeting on Sunday, May 24th, Light of the Valley unanimously approved to sign the Purchase Agreement with Bethesda Cornerstone Village to enter into a ministry partnership. Over the next few months, we will be working with them on a ministry plan that, under the Lord’s leading, will both complement and multiply both organization’s ministries. Though the currently property is not expected to see any changes for the next two years, planning is beginning now to seek the vision God has for us. You will be hearing much more about this and have many opportunities to give input in the weeks ahead.

2- During this COVID-19 process, Light of the Valley Church has never been closed. We have continued in worship, in Bible study, in caring for our members and in being the Light of Christ in our community. The Church, is simply each member of Light of the Valley, and we have continued to walk under God’s grace and “meet” together as His people. So, when I hear about “re-opening” I cringe a bit, because we were never closed. Yeah, I know, it’s referring to the act of public worship on Sundays, and though that is a significant part of our identity, who we are and what we do as followers of Jesus encompasses so much more. Our Strategic Planning Council will be meeting next week to seek the Lord’s direction as to when and how we will offer public gatherings. More information will be communicated next Thursday.

3- A sister church in Galt, Shepherd of the Valley has been in a pastoral vacancy. On their request, Light of the Valley has sent Pastor Michael Dube to minister among them on an interim basis. It appears Pastor Michael will be serving there for the next six months while they search for a new pastor. (In answer to your question, no Light of the Valley did not receive any commissions or finder’s fees for the deal… :) Please keep the people of Shepherd of the Valley and Pastor Michael in your prayers as they seek the Sprit’s leading over the next six months.

As always, if you have any questions or input, we’d love to hear from you. God bless and keep you in His good grace!

A Message from Pastor Jay

April 30, 2020

Dear Light of the Valley Family,

Psalm 103:1–5 (NIV)
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

“Forget not all His benefits”. In chaotic times it’s tempting to look around and forget to look up. Here the psalmist is reminding us to remember The One who satisfies our desires with good things. So, as His church at Light of the Valley, we continue to worship Him and celebrate the good things we see Him doing!

We celebrate that The Lord has made LoV a “connecting place” where people come to get connected or re-connecting to Him by His Word and Spirit. We also come to connect with others and “do life” together. That is remaining strong as we find new ways to worship via Facebook Live and as our Zoom Bible Studies grow and connect with more people.

We celebrate new opportunities to connect with people in the area and all over the country in both worship and LightHouse groups. His Spirit continues to unite households and hearts in new ways!

We celebrate a generous God who, out of His abundant blessings, has enabled us to give both in regular offerings and to the COVID-19 Relief Fund. People are being blessed as He uses LoV to pass on resources to our community. More and more He is being known as a God who provides and takes care of “the least of these” because of how He is working at this time. Already your giving has enabled families and individuals to pay rent, cover back bills, afford groceries find a bit of grace in a very tenuous time. As a church organization, your consistent, faithful giving combined with responsible & wise stewardship are keeping us in a very positive place!

We celebrate new challenges that put us back on our knees in both awe and humble prayer before a God who is bigger than all this, yet is intimately nearby to work for our blessing and His glory. It seems daily that we as staff, leaders and pertness in the Gospel ministry are being surprised by how God is moving and blessing through all of this.

All the more reasons why Psalm 103 is so fitting right now:

“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name!”
